Great Turnout at GVBLN Fall Career Fair
The second GVBLN “Connections Work” Event of 2011 was held on November 3rd from 10am to 2pm at the Vancouver Public Library. Representatives from fourteen GVBLN member employers met with dozens of job seekers and the room was abuzz for the entire duration of the event. Once again the feedback has been very positive and numerous GVBLN clients have gone on to further interviews through contacts made at the event.
TD Canada Trust was honoured with the 2011 GVBLN Best Practices Award for their tireless work on inclusion of persons with disabilities. They are placing a great deal of importance on this issue through promotional activities, hiring initiatives and training opportunities for their managers and employees. The trophy was presented by BIV Media, last year’s recipient. In addition numerous donated door prizes were awarded.
Another BC Centre for Ability program was highlighted at the event as well. Abilities in Mind (AIM), funded by the National Opportunities Fund of Canada is developing training designed for employers focusing on attracting, hiring, retaining and promoting persons with disabilities.
